I bet that in addition to the human guests there were at least four hundred dogs as well as some cats, birds and other pets.<\/p>\n<p>I sat next to a family with three goldendoodles, the father and two sons. Mom was busy elsewhere. All were incredibly well-behaved, in fact, the baby behind me was much noisier than any of the animals.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5194\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5194\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5194\" src=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/dane-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/dane-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/dane.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-5194\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A very Great Dane<\/p><\/div>\n<p>At one point a large, laid-back cat in a\u00a0 harness walked through a group of dogs with neither cat or dogs paying any attention to one another.\u00a0 That\u2019s one take-charge cat.<\/p>\n<p>The formal procession of the animals included a huge horse of the Clydesdale variety, a very big snake, an owl, a bird that may have been a falcon, a calf, a small donkey, a llama, goats, a sheep, a smallish camel a<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5192\" src=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/camel-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/camel-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/camel-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/camel.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>nd others.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After the service people went to designated areas in the Cathedral\u2019s gardens for blessing personal animals. There was an area for pet portraits and booths from different organizations including Muddy Paws that helps dogs get adopted.<\/p>\n<p>Happily, I saw only one cat in costume although walking past Petco at Union Square recently, I noted aisles of Halloween costumes for animals. Sake, my cat, wouldn\u2019t take well to a costume or a visit to the Cathedral.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5195\" style=\"width: 207px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5195\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5195\" src=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/catcostumejpeg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"197\" height=\"256\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-5195\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">No thanks<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>St. Francis is associated with almond cookies as he supposedly asked for them on his deathbed. He lived in Assisi in Umbria and so would have eaten simple food of the area. Instead of cookies\u00a0 this is a recipe for bruschetta\u00a0 (\u2018brusketta\u2019 ), a classic.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5197\" src=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/bruschetta-s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"183\" height=\"275\" \/><\/p>\n<p>1 baguette, sliced into 1\/2-inch thick pieces<\/p>\n<p>2-3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for drizzling<\/p>\n<p>1 clove garlic, halved (I\u2019d probably use less but most cooks would stick with this.)<\/p>\n<p>4-6 plum or roma tomatoes, diced<\/p>\n<p>1\/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped<\/p>\n<p>1-2 cloves garlic, minced<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional)<\/p>\n<p>Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste<\/p>\n<p>In a medium bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped basil, minced garlic, 1\u20132 tablespoons of olive oil, and balsamic vinegar (if using). Season with salt and pepper. Stir gently to combine and set aside to let the flavors marinate. For the best flavor, let it sit for at least 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Preheat oven to 400\u00b0F Arrange baguette slices on a baking sheet and brush each slice with olive oil. Bake for 5 to 10 minutes, or until golden brown and lightly toasted.<\/p>\n<p>Remove\u00a0 toasted bread from oven and\u00a0 while still warm, rub the cut side of a raw, halved garlic clove over the surface of each slice.<\/p>\n<p>Just before serving, spoon tomato mixture generously onto each slice of garlic-rubbed bread. Sprinkle with flaky salt. Serve immediately to ensure the bread stays crisp.<\/p>\n<p>If you like the TV series, <em>All Creatures Great and Small<\/em>, watch an episode. St. F. would approve.
