{"id":4682,"date":"2023-01-04T22:06:34","date_gmt":"2023-01-04T22:06:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/?p=4682"},"modified":"2023-01-02T22:12:14","modified_gmt":"2023-01-02T22:12:14","slug":"these-boots-arent-made-for-walkin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/?p=4682","title":{"rendered":"These Boots Aren&#8217;t Made for Walkin&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To wind up 2022, a friend and I went to <em>Shoes: Anatomy,<\/em> <em>Identity, Magic <\/em>at the Museum at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) (it closed December 31.)\u00a0 Contrary to how many women feel, I hate shoes as most are supremely uncomfortable. I\u2019d rather shop for bathing suits than shoes. But, I\u2019m digressing\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit featured over 300 pairs of shoes, boots, sandals, and sneakers, many pretty terrific if you look at shoes as objects of style rather than comfort or utility. Take this delightful pair: no need for open carry, just strut.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4683\" src=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/IMG_6764-300x277.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/IMG_6764-300x277.jpg 300w, https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/IMG_6764.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Or these by Tod Oldham which aren\u2019t quite as painful as they look as the \u2018barbed wire\u2019 running up the leg is made of leather, not metal<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4684\" src=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/ankle-pain-shoes-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/ankle-pain-shoes-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/ankle-pain-shoes.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Several pairs of black high boots were described as \u2018dominatrix\u2019\u2014a great cross-marketing opportunity with masks, corsets, whips and chains. Shoes for little feet, (as in kids and from earlier eras when feet trended small), are included as well as footwear for men.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4690\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4690\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4690\" src=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/IMG_6771-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/IMG_6771-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/IMG_6771.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-4690\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Which little piggy stays home?<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In the 1940s, shoe stores routinely fluoroscope kids\u2019 feet exposing them to radiation, a health hazard not only for the X-rayed children but even more so for the salespeople who used the machines. The process began to be banned in the 50s.<\/p>\n<p>High heels were first worn by Persian men in the 10th century as a way for calvary riders keep their shoes in their stirrups. \u00a0Today many women happily risk chronic knee and back pain, hip problems and hammertoes to wear stilettos as\u2014per various studies&#8211; it makes them feel sexier and empowered. (Or wear armor\/ carry a blowtorch.)<\/p>\n<p>The show had plenty of platform shoes as well as sneakers such as Nike \u2018Air Jordans\u2019 from 1985. As Cinderella is supposed to have said, \u201cOne pair of shoes can change your life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And now we have: <strong>Shoestring Potatoes <\/strong>(recipe courtesy of Ina Garten)<\/p>\n<p>Peanut or canola oil<\/p>\n<p>2 large Idaho potatoes, peeled<\/p>\n<p>Sea or Kosher salt<\/p>\n<p>How To:<\/p>\n<p>Preheat the oven to 350. Pour at least 1-inch of oil into a deep pot and heat it to 350<\/p>\n<p>Slice potatoes into thin matchsticks with a vegetable slicer or mandoline, (be careful to not cut yourself). Drop potatoes into a bowl of cold water as you cut. Drain potatoes and dry thoroughly with paper towels. Drop potatoes in batches into the hot oil and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, until golden brown. Remove from the pot with a wire basket skimmer or slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Pour your beverage (ideally champagne) into a shoe.
