Not quite. I  was a newbie in a yoga class, dazzled by the lithe, twenty-something  instructor with rubber joints. (For non-yoga practitioners, a vinyasa is  a series of poses starting and ending with a downward facing dog,  pictured above. A &#8220;good dog&#8221; is not a well-behaved Lab, it involves  spread fingers and toes, limber hamstrings and steady in- and  exhalations. My dog is\u00a0 not all that good but very game.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">\n<p>Since the condiment class, I&#8217;ve taken yoga classes on beaches, in gyms and spas, in living rooms,\u00a0 at home and far away.\u00a0 India, birthplace of yoga, has classes everywhere. In\u00a0 many temples like the Meenakshi Temple in Madurai,\u00a0 in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu, there are impromptu yoga groups scattered about the huge complex.\u00a0 If the practitioners were aware that people like me watched for a few moments, they didn&#8217;t pay the slightest heed.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_431\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/FamtempleSInd1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-431\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-431\" title=\"Meenakshi Temple\" src=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/FamtempleSInd1-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/FamtempleSInd1-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/FamtempleSInd1-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/FamtempleSInd1.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-431\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Meenakshi Temple, Madurai<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In the U.S., the public posture of yoga devotees is often includes healthy eating.\u00a0 If practitioners snarf up Big Macs, they don&#8217;t say so nor do their lean bodies.\u00a0  Lentils are a protein dream, third only to soybeans and hemp seed (anyone ever eaten hemp seed?)<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a recipe for lentils with leeks that I&#8217;ve used as a base for salmon\u00a0 It&#8217;s delicious on its own and you can use it any way you please. Namaste.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_428\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/le.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-428\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-428\" title=\"lentils with leeks\" src=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/le-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/le-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/marigoldonline.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/le-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-428\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lentils with leeks <\/p><\/div>\n<p>For mustard-herb butter:<\/p>\n<p>3 Tbls. unsalted butter, softened<\/p>\n<p>1 Tbls grainy mustard (like Dijon)<\/p>\n<p>1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice<\/p>\n<p>1 Tbls each chopped chives and tarragon (if you have them handy, taste is still good if you don&#8217;t)<\/p>\n<p>For lentils and leeks:<\/p>\n<p>1 cup French green lentils<\/p>\n<p>4 cups water<\/p>\n<p>2 leeks (white and pale green parts) chopped and well-washed<\/p>\n<p>1 Tbls. unsalted butter<\/p>\n<p>1 Tbls. fresh lemon juice<\/p>\n<p>Bring lentils, water and 3\/4 teaspoon salt to a boil in a heavy saucepan, then reduce heat and simmer, uncovered until lentils are just tender, about 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand five minutes. Reserve one cup cooking liquid and drain the rest.<\/p>\n<p>Chop leeks, wash and cook in a tablespoon of butter over medium-low heat, stirring a little until softened, 6-8 minutes. Add lentils with the reserved cooking liquid to the leeks and add the 3 Tbls. mustard-herb butter until lentils are heated through and butter has melted. Add the lemon juice and salt and pepper to taste.\u00a0 Serve under cooked salmon for the classic French Saumon aux Lentilles&#8211;or not.\u00a0 Like yoga, it&#8217;s about you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first time I heard the title phrase, visions of condiments danced in my head as though\u00a0 I&#8217;d been offered garnishes for a curry.
